A cottage chic wedding on a beautiful sunny summer day of the rocky midcoast shoreline in Maine… Sounds like a dream right? I had the honor of photographing Katie and Sam’s lovely wedding August 26, 2017 on a private property in Harpswell, Maine. The couple made sure that their wedding was filled with love, family and friends all to enjoy the celebration of two families.
The couple chose to do a first look followed by family portraits and a seaside ceremony. Their cocktail hour allowed them to catch up with loved ones . Their reception was filled with heart felt speeches, a personalized composed song, and a super fun dance party. I’m not gonna lie, I love seeing Sam dance it out on the dance floor and Katie’s uncle twirling around every lady he could. Once again what a pleasure capturing your stunning day!

What was your favorite moment/ memory of your wedding day?
It’s so hard to choose!! Our favorite moment might have been during my Dad’s toast when he asked us to pause and look around the room/tent at all the people that were there for us that night. That still moment when we briefly connected with each person there really sticks with us.

How did you guys meet?
Sam and I met in 2012 when we were both living in Portland, ME. Sam sent me a message on OK Cupid and we quickly figured out that we only lived a couple of blocks away from each other! -
Any word of advice/ wisdom for couples?
Don’t let the enormity of the event overwhelm you. Take things on one task at a time and ask for help when you need it! Also, sneak away from your own wedding for a moment to take a look and really let the day sink in. -
If you could redo 1 thing what would it be?
We would make sure to visit every table at our reception. We missed saying hi to some people and both regret it. (Though how we could find a spare moment, I’m not sure!) -
Engagement Story?
Sam and I were home in Maine and on the last day of our trip, Sam asked me to go for a little walk with him. We ended up on the dock at Porter’s Landing in Freeport and it was there that Sam got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! -
Favorite part of wedding planning? Most stressful part of wedding planning?
My favorite parts of wedding planning were the creative visual parts – thinking about flowers and little decorative touches to set the scene. The most stressful parts involved numbers and tiny details – pinning down the ever-changig head count…etc. -
Are you going on a honeymoon? If so tell us!!! It gives couples ideas on where to go!
Yes! Two days after our wedding we flew to Spain. We spent time in Madrid, Barcelona, and the surrounding areas. Late August/early September was a great time of year to visit with beautiful weather and fewer tourists than at the height of summer. -
Each of you tell me your favorite thing about one another and your biggest pet peeve of one another 🙂
My favorite thing about Katie is how devoted a life partner she is. Biggest pet peeve is how she leaves the sponge wet in the sink. K: My favorite thing about Sam is his earnestness: He’s someone who keeps his promises. Pet peeve: he’s a wiggler -
