Off the Mat Yoga photoshoot: A commercial photo shoot of Trish a children’s Yoga and Yoga Nidra instructor
If you ever have the opportunity to meet Trish and or take a class I have two words of advice… DO IT! I have known Trish for the majority of my life and she has evolved into a woman of light, love, laughter, peace, power and yoga. I had the opportunity to capture Trish in one of her yoga studios (yes she travels where needed!) and then convinced her out to brave the cold, for a more stylized Maine winter yoga session!
Here are some insights on what services Trish offers in her two classes. www.offthematme.com
Yoga Nidra
or
Yogic Sleep
“Yoga Nidra starts where savasana ends. It is normally practiced anywhere from 30-45 minutes Yoga Nidra is guided meditation / mind-body therapy where the practitioner has the ability to go into one of the deepest states of relaxation possible, all while remaining awake and aware. With the use of comfy props (blankets and bolsters, eye pillows and yoga mats) Yoga Nidra can be practiced by any body. Scientific studies have show that Yoga Nidra reduces stress, anxiety, depression, blood pressure, and brings a more restful sleep.
Yoga Nidra brings the sympathetic system (Fight or flight) which many of us are in on a constant basis and the Para sympathetic system (rest and digest) into homeostasis (balance) in order to allow you to enter into a state of calm bliss. When you feel better about yourself, you are more apt to take care of yourself, treat yourself and others with more care and respect, and accomplish the things you want to accomplish.
Yoga Nidra works by systematically disconnecting the practitioners mind and sense from their consciousness. By disconnecting from the senses the practitioner is able to reconnect with their ‘higher self’ allowing the person to activate self-healing powers whether that be to heal anxiety, depression, insomnia, etc.
By being able to connect with ourselves on a deeper level we find that we can get past the bullshit of the expectations we put on ourselves and the expectations that others put on us, we can get past the labels, the boxes we put ourselves in, past our to-do lists…we can just be. And that peace, of just being, brings us into a whole new world of living.
I believe that Yoga Nidra can change lives.
Children’s Yoga
Little Lion’s Yoga

It gives them a sense of confidence, helps with coordination, body awareness, emotional intelligence. It fosters a sense of community, friendship, & compassion.”
